Good morning, reader!

Sorry for disappearing again it was a hard month of bringing our project to live, but now we have something to share with you.

Over last month, I have experienced how hard and important is role of Marketing in Business world. It requires deep preparation, big spendings and a lot of efforts. To bring the word out there about new firm Grocemania we decided to start with flyering and presentations with banners and promo products. However, first problem has faced us straight away. For doing this, we needed designer  and a photo-man…

Fortunately it is 21 century and we found on-line tool to generate a flyers for us, but how should it look was still a question. Surely, we decided to put our mission statement on a flyer to give people clear understanding of «Who we are» and «Which problem» we are solving. Meanwhile, our marketing director got a very good idea to use paper bag as a background. It gives us an opportunity to introduce people our unique delivery packaging which is completely environmental friendly and nicely designed with a white sticker.

We all completely liked the idea but design was not so good as you can see. So we had to contact my friend designer again… Fortunately, she is a very kind person and found a free time to help us, for what we all say thank you! And that is what we have got:

We have not even finished with a flyers but new problem came up- Social media. Social Media is a part of any Marketing department as it significantly helps you to increase people awareness about your brand. But how many of you know how hard is not only to attract people but also to control even one page like Facebook for example. It took us around a week to get our first audience in Facebook and Instagram, but for now we have reached a really good number of like and reviews…

The social media pages allowed us to promote out Website and to promote it even more I have decided to introduce «Iphone 6 Give-away» competition. So we gain more interest on our Instagram Page. I have communicated with some famous profiles in UK and one known as «Glamstagram» with over 10k followers agreed to support us for monetary reward. The point is that people have to subscribe to our page and tag 2 friends and even though they will not buy anything I believe they will remember it.

Step 3- Love it

Day 5- 20
Good morning, dear reader!
So, we have applied for HSBC Business bank account and now we are starting to do real business. As a Managing Director I had to organize the whole process and decided to start with a brand image.
Grocemania was created in order to help people and make their life easier. That is why, we came up with idea of being as much simple and bright as it is possible. Just in 10 minutes I found a designer to create logo for us. We have all been excited as it will determine our future recognition. However, as soon as she showed us the work she has done we all have been completely impressed.

We tried to make our logo expressing the positive and friendly brand because of white background. . The brand which is also environmental friendly with use of green color in shape of a leaf which relaxes the eyes. The font we used was also created by our designer what gave us a bit more style and personality to our brand. To support our environment position, we have thought of showing to customers that we actually care, and our Marketing Director offered to use paper bags instead of normal. We all liked that idea but I decided to add a white sticker with logo to style and fulfil our brand image.

Step 2- Do it

Day 3-4

I was always a very business inclined person as my father is a successful businessman in Kazakhstan and my very favourite example. As my life coach he always told me that real businessman should do everything the same moment he/she gets the task. So, I decided to be the one who drives the process and called everyone for an extra-meeting.  After we have done over surveys on the streets of Kingston, we needed to prepare a business plan, make a strong marketing and branding preparation and much more. Fortunately, we had a meeting with our lovely mentor the same day when we introduced our plan to her. She was impressed and we started clearing the objectives of our business with support of SWOT analysis.

The preparation started with submitting our company to Young Enterprise and applying to real business account.

Young Enterprise has also provided us with help of creating a real business account under the name of a branch of Y.E. They have also provided us with 80 pounds overdraft possibility but with limitation of getting the VAT back. That was stated in the agreement and as you know businesses in the UK have the possibility to claim their VAT back. That is why I always say you should read everything before the signing.

However, our trip to HSBC has given a great impression on me. We have been forwarded to a business department of HSBC bank which I have never visited before. We have signed the contract with financial director and submitted it to a lady. It was great impression as first time I was considered as a real entrepreneur.

Step 1- Think it

For every entrepreneur it is very important to create a really good idea, the idea which will help to outstand in a future competition.

It is also important of course to make a business plan, market research and all the calculations but how can you start without your ground, without your idea. So, as I have said before we have been brainstorming possible products and services for our start-up for weeks. We came up with enormous amount of ideas like electric bicycles, underfloor heating and much more. As a part of our programme VISA company was kindly agreed to run a professional training with us.

However, it did not help. Until one very hard and long working day. I was completely out of power and really wished about nuts with bananas after the gym session. I asked my friend to bring me them from «TESCO» but unfortunately he forgot. Afterwards, I just thought how nice it would be if there was an on-line supermarket with an INSTANT delivery. And that is how it started.

Day 1 and 2

After I got an idea about Grocemania I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. It was some kind of inspiration. Suddenly, everything I have studied at University and Foundation started coming to my head. The night was sleepless.

Next morning I met our group and told them everything what I thought about. After my hour speech everyone was really impressed and liked the idea. As a part of our programme and of course we have studied it all, we decided to make the proper market research. Polina and Nikita started preparing surveys, while me and Jun where researching about the market. And here is some of the facts about it:

  • Instant online supermarket is a niche market in the UK with only 1 player, however with limitations
  • The only player is «Ocado» with annual revenue over 971m GBP, however the minimum order for INSTANT delivery is 80 pounds (due to its’ large size and location of they storages)
  • The «SPUD» is an American prototype of our idea was created in 2013 and in 2 years has expanded to 6 cities in biggest states of US. With first investments of over 250,000$ they have managed to achieve revenue level of over 200m $ a year in 2015
  • After a number of Surveys we have found that 82% of customers asked, states that they would like to use such service

As you understand, second day we have spent on doing our surveys and meeting new people. It was a very good experience as we have heard real people opinions and suggestions.

Hello to everyone!

My name is Askar Bulegenov and I am a final year student at Kingston University studying (BA Hons) International Business. And this year me and my team will try to start a real business with all knowledges and experience we gained at University. It will be a very interesting adventure for us and everyone reading this. So let me introduce you my team. We are a group of five international students from Kazakhstan, Korea and Russia. We divided a roles and responsibilities between each other and they look following:

  2. Polina Torshina, Russia, Moscow, 21 y.o.- Marketing Director/ Lawyer
  3. Jun Taek Hong, Korea, Seoul, 23 y.o.- Finance Director/ P.A.
  4. Nikita Danilenkov, Russia, St. Petersburg 21 y.o.- Operations Director/ Logistics Manager
  5. Kibum Kwung, Korea, Seoul 22 y.o.- Marketing Director

So, to start it is crucial for any entrepreneur to have a good IDEA and BE PASSIONATE about your idea. Our team have been trying to make an idea for over than 3 weeks, unfortunately unsuccessfully. We had a meeting with «Visa» representatives what also did not help us a lot. So, one late evening after a very long and a hard day, I was very tired and wanted to do nothing. I had to go for a shop to do my grocery, when I though what if … 🙂

That is how «Grocemania» was born, but all the details of business itself you will see in the next post 😉

For now I want to share with you on thing, that to run your own business you should live like it is the only thing in your live and be passionate about it ! It’s been 3 days since me and the whole team were doing the research, marketing plan, cash forecasts, surveys and a lot of other different things. But still, we all feel very passionate about it and waiting for Saturday to launch our project !

My next blog will be uploaded soon, where I will reveal the secret IDEA of my business. Researches, marketing and strategies will be also presented in there.
